Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color in Graphite Gravity 

This is the first magnetic polish I've ever purchased. When I first saw photos and ads for magnetic polish, I was not impressed by the designs, and I thought they looked silly. This color was grungy and a cool metallic hue on its own, so I thought I'd give it a go.

The instructions seemed simple enough. Paint , paint again, and upon the second coat, hold the magnet over the design for ten seconds. The result left me very pleasantly surprised. I saw a cool chevron pattern, rather than the tacky waves I was expecting. It looked marvelous with all of my outfits as well; a very versatile color and pattern ! It stayed on all week with very minimal chipping and great shine. 

 I give this polish a thumbs up !

What's on my nails ... diy lace !

So I had this lace dress with long sleeves. Needless to say it looks much better as a short sleeve, so when I cut them off, I was left with a nice amount of lace.  I stumbled upon some really cool lace mani pictures, which I knew I had to try ! I knew there was a reason for not throwing out that lace. #slighthoarder.

It actually worked out really well. The lace stayed on until I took it off a week later. The only thing was that my boyfriend had to trim off the loose ends every night, a slight hassle. 

I actually followed a tutorial for this nail diy, which you can find here.  It's very helpful and detailed, so check it out ! I'll post the basic steps for your convenience. 

1. Cut the lace first ! And cut pieces larger than your nail. You can trim the extra off afterwards.

2. Paint base coat !

3. Paint on polish of your choice ! I chose the green for an edgy look.

4. Paint another coat if necessary to obtain full coverage. 

5. Apply a thick top coat, then immediately and gently press the lace to the nail. 

TIP : The tutorial says to use a toothpick to move the lace around; definitely a wise choice. My lace got a bit crowded on some nails. It might help to stretch the lace as you're laying it on the nail. 

6. Paint on top coat at least once to secure the lace on. 

7. Trim off bits once everything is basically dry.

And ta da ! Lacy nails. Very, very easy nail art for those that can't exactly draw masterpieces on their nails, me included.

Flea Market Finds...

So within the past two weeks, I've gone to two different flea markets. Rice's Flea Market is chock full of complete randomness. From the seller of shaving cream and razors, to the twenty-something plus knock-off bag and sunglasses vendors, it can seem kind of chaotic and not the most genuine of places to find that vintage something you've always been looking for. There are plenty of gems if you search, as always. I was beyond pleased with my loot.

The first find was the Def Leppard record. I'm constantly scanning record vendors for a good find, but between jazzersize records and twangy country records, there's never much success. Then I stumbled upon a vendor that had a small box of records, and a crate of old video games (e.g. Gamecube games, Gameboy games, a Gameboy console...). It was heavenly. The records were had me written all over them. It's so hard to find old hair metal records when you live in the middle of nowhere and the nearest record exchange is an hour away. Needless to say I picked up the DefLeppard record and was on my way. Ever since seeing Rock of Ages, my metal kick has been pretty intense...

The beaded collar has been on my watch list for ages. I love collars, but it's hard when the only ones I see and like are pricey as hell. This collar has amazing quality feel to it. It is so gorgeous. Find that at a department store and pay much much more than the twenty five I paid.

The nail polish there isn't much to say about. It's... nail polish. I didn't have any black polish, so it only made sense. It's a basic color, and a great base color for white polka dots.

The Golden Nugget I've always wanted to go to ever since I drove past it when I was little. I read an article in my Lucky magazine sometime last year, and it was in the piece as one of the best flea markets in America. It's so close to my home, I needed to make the trip. With Lindsey by my side, we trekked in our sandals up and down each dusty row, the blazing sun burning our backs. There was a lot of jewelry. It all seemed vintage, a positive sign. Antiques were everywhere as well. I am constantly looking for new antique tea cups and dishware to store jewelry in, and this place was more than just well stocked. I ended up with this great vintage sweater, right out of some eighties film.

Nail Polish Reviews... at long last.

The Sally Hansen polish, pictured above, I bought because the sparkles look amazing in the bottle. I bought a sparkly Sally Hansen polish for a friend, and I couldn't resist buying one when I saw them in Walmart. I wish I could have all of them, but, being a broke bum, I could only purchase one. It was between a pale pink or this blue. I don't think I need to say which one won.

When I put on the first coat, and the second coat, and even the third coat, the sparkle effect was extremely gradual. I guess I was naively wishing that the sparkle would just magically cover the entire surface of my nail. I stopped at three coats, but to get complete coverage, at least, a fourth coat would be needed. 

I really like the color, and as I say, I love sparkles. I didn't like having to put on three coats, cause I'm anal and it interfered with my two coats of color ritual. But it looked really nice, so I guess I can suck it up. It chipped towards the end of the week (I paint my nails every Sunday), and they got massacred at work on Saturday. All polishes get scrubbed away when you're a dishwasher :) so I can't complain there. 

What I didn't like, was trying to get it off. It took ages. I went through a bajillion nail polish pads. The sparkle was so beautiful, but getting it to come off was almost frustrating. 

In review, pretty sparkly colour, but takes forever to pry off. 

Worth it ? I'd say so yes !

The claire's polish I didn't get the chance to snap shots of. It chipped at work, and when I had it on my toes... I felt weird taking picture of my feet. Feet are icky. The work feet itself is enough for me. 

So picture aside, it's a mood polish. So apparently it's supposed to change shades based on your mood. So basically, it has nothing to do with your mood, and everything to do with body temperature. I would never really trust this idea in nail polish, but, seeing as I got this as a gift, and the colour is pretty either shade, I didn't really care what would or wouldn't happen. 

Nothing happened at all. I expected as much. I know there are other mood polishes, so maybe this brand's quality is lacking, who knows. The pink was pretty, but that's that. No changing of the shade or anything. I even put my hand in the fridge, thinking the icy temperature would make the pink lighter. It just made my hand cold.

Any opinions on sparkly polishes or mood polishes would be greatly appreciated !

Nail polish. It's fun, it's bright, it's dark, it can be whatever you want it to be. I like mine when it's sparkly, and I want to master the galaxy nails craze... some day.

Review: Sally Hansen Salon effects Real Nail Polish Strips

$3.75ish? I think?

So... I saw these in Seventeen, and I decided to give them a whirl. I'd already tried some Sephora for OPI ones in the spring, and I didn't really like how they turned out. This is a different brand so I figured why not? Needless to say I was thrilled ! They significantly cheaper than the Sephora ones, and better quality, easier, basically just awesome. It's so simple to apply, and they lasted for the ten days like it said. They probably would have stayed on longer had I not painted my nails a new colour. That being said, removal is also easy with just some nail polish remover. So so simple. And they looked wonderful ! Countless amounts of people asked me how I did that, or which salon I went to; they're quite convincing. I want to purchase a butterfly print next that I saw as well.
